Expo Hotels & Resorts is a family business that was founded in 1976 to cater to all the needs and wishes of guests staying at hotels in Barcelona, Valencia, Marbella and Tenerife.


With 8 hotels and resorts in Spain and more than 30 years of experience, Expo Hotels & Resorts has ample experience in the organization of meetings, conventions and other events, both in urban as well as holiday destinations.

Our History

The Expo Hotels & Resorts chain was founded with the construction of its first hotel, Expo Hotel Barcelona in 1976. It is one of the largest 4-star hotels in the city with 423 rooms, a restaurant, 9 meeting rooms, 3 private dining rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, and an excellent location in one of the most important business centers of Barcelona.


Subsequently, and modelled on Expo Hotel Barcelona, Expo Hotel Valencia was built—a 3-star hotel with 385 rooms, 9 meeting rooms, a restaurant, and an outdoor swimming pool. This hotel was also strategically located next to the Nuevo Centro neighbourhood, one of the commercial and business areas of the city.


Mare Nostrum Resort was conceived as the result of the ideas and work of a visionary man, Antonio Mestre, who, following a trip to Las Vegas, decided to recreate the magnitude of the American city in the south of Tenerife. He was one of the first to build deluxe hotels on the island along with the only privately owned auditorium in all of Europe with a capacity of 1,876 people.


In 1988, the Mediterranean Palace hotel was inaugurated on Playa de las Américas (Arona Beach). It was renovated in 2000. This spectacular hotel offers 535 rooms facing a 1,300 m2 swimming pool. That same year and in the same location, Sir Anthony Hotel opened its doors. It was renovated in 2008. This hotel has 72 rooms facing the ocean as well as a swimming pool and gardens. Between 1996 and 1997, the Cleopatra Palace, Julio Caesar Palace and Marco Antonio Palace were inaugurated. Each offers some 200 rooms and is located around an original Roman pool. In 1996, the Pirámide de Arona was also inaugurated: It’s a spectacular building housing one of the largest auditoriums in Europe – a vast hall with a seating capacity of 1,874 people and a 350 m2 stagr that is equipped with sophisticated audiovisual technology.


By October 2003, the group acquired the emblematic Hotel Princess Sofia (500 rooms) in the city of Barcelona. The hotel focused on positioning itself as a reference among high-range urban hotels – specializing in congresses, conventions and meetings by using its infrastructure of 500 rooms, a wellness center and 28 modular meeting rooms with a total floor space of 3,900 m2, which can be adapted to any necessity.


In October 2004, Expo Hotels & Resorts inaugurated a new hotel in Barcelona, the 4-star Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya. This hotel is located only a few minutes from the Avinguda Diagonal, the most important financial and commercial center in the city. It’s also only 50m away from the Fira de Barcelona fair grounds and from Sants railway station (Barcelona-Madrid AVE Station), 15 minutes from El Prat Barcelona airport and a short distance from the most attractive tourist attractions in Barcelona. The hotel is ideally located thanks to the excellent communication with highway access roads to the city. The 23-floor tower has 272 rooms (259 rooms and 13 suites) as well as a spa, a gym, a panoramic restaurant on the 23rd floor ("Restaurante Visual"), 7 meeting rooms and an auditorium with a capacity of 100 people.


In June of 2006, the group acquired the exclusive Don Carlos Leisure Resort & Spa in Marbella: the tenth hotel incorporated into the group on the Peninsula and the first on the Costa del Sol. The Don Carlos Resort & Leisure Spa has 251 rooms (241 rooms and 10 luxury suites) as well as 24 exclusive Beach Suites located on a private area alongside the resort. In addition, the hotel beach is one of the eight famous Nikki Beaches that can be found at exclusive locations throughout the world. The “Marcos Tennis Academy” is nestled within 40,000m2 of tropical gardens and has a total of 11 courts. Located next to the most outstanding golf courses in Malaga (Santa María Golf & Country Club, Río Real Golf Club and Marbella Golf Club) the resort is the ideal place for golf enthusiasts. Don Carlos Resort & Leisure Spa also has extensive facilities for events and congresses with more than 2,000m2 divided into 12 multi-functional rooms.


With the 3 hotels in Barcelona, the group operates more than 1,200 rooms in the city. All in all, the hotel chain offers more than 2,800 rooms in its 8 hotels in Spain.
